qua•li•a / noun / philosophy
the internal and subjective component of sense perceptions, arising from stimulation of the senses by phenomena.
QUALIATIK is the multimedia project of producer, singer, songwriter, and new media artist Arielle Herman, who began making music while studying neuroscience at Haverford College. Ethereal soundscapes erupt into frenetic percussion and driving vocals, equal parts soulful, sensual, and biting. Her feverishly introspective music has been described as progressive, beat-driven experimental pop—ethereal, restless, and bursting with life. QUALIATIK's work explores consciousness, self-observation, neurosis, intimacy, and self-identity in the age of technology, molding sound to mirror deep and nuanced emotional landscapes.
Known for her dynamic live show, QUALIATIK has performed alongside RP Boo at VIA Festival, Jessy Lanza at Gorilla vs. Bear's Texas Summer Festival, as an opener for Drake, Anderson .Paak, and Kelela at SXSW's FADER Fort, and as direct support at Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes' album release show and on Japanese producer Seiho's US tour. Her passionately DIY, autodidactic approach finds her conceptualizing, creating, and executing every aspect of her work. Her 3D accompaniment for her sound transforms the live show into a visceral array of pulsing textures reminiscent of skin, organs, and abalone. QUALIATIK is based in Brooklyn, NY.
